The Kingdom of God is for Children - Childlike Wonder

One of the things I love reading in the gospels is how amazed the people were by Jesus. Just look at some verses from Luke’s gospel:

-       Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers.

-       All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” they asked.

-       They were amazed at his teaching, because his words had authority.

-       All the people were amazed and said to each other, “What words these are! With authority and power he gives orders to impure spirits and they come out!”

-       Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God. They were filled with awe and said, “We have seen remarkable things today.”

(Luke 2:47; 4:22, 32, 36; 5:26 NIV11)

Seek Spiritual Amazement

Sometimes I lament my lack of amazement. I can read of the things that amazed the crowds and yawn. And I think oh forgive me Lord! Please touch my heart so that I may be amazed by you again!!!

Shereen teaches grade 2 at Parkrand Primary. And a lot of kids from her school live in the same housing estate that we do. It’s funny to see the kids’ response when they see her outside of school for the first time. One day she drove in and one of the little boys from the school was walking around our complex. He saw Shereen and his mouth just dropped open! His eyes opened wide! It AMAZED him to see her in that space!

Do we ever have jaw-dropping moments of wonder in our faith? Shouldn’t every day be a jaw-dropper? Shouldn’t our eyes be open wide in amazement as we read His Word?

Or have we become too jaded by the world? Oh I pray not! I pray that you and I can always retain a sense of wonder in our faith!

Friends, come to God every day and look for wondrous things in His Word!!! Look for amazing things, and if you look with that mindset, you will be wowed!

Embrace Wonder Daily

Again, we tend to be like the teenager. With our heads down and eyes glued to our phones. But if we would just seek with wonder, look for God with wonder…

What amazement we will find.

May God open our eyes today to the wonders of His presence in all that we do.
