God is Life

God is Life

Over the last few weeks I’ve shared with you how:
- Because Jesus loved, we love others deeply
- Because Jesus worshipped, we live lives of deep worship
- Because Jesus was holy, we can also live holy and consecrated lives

This week we are going to look at one last idea around this theme: because Jesus lives, I will live.

I used to teach Bible education at a local school here in Boksburg, every Tuesday. I would teach those kids, but man they taught me a lot too, I must tell you. One day I asked the kids to complete this sentence: ______________ is life!

Life as the Core Theme of Jesus' Teachings

They said things like soccer is life… food is life… One of them said I want to swap it around to say life is good! We went through a bunch of these and then I gave them my answer: GOD is life.

Do you believe that? GOD is life! Life is all about Him!

One of the most common themes in the Bible is life! You’ll find the word over 500 times in the Bible. In particular you find this word in John’s writing. 81 times he uses that word. He was Jesus’ best friend. And he understood what Jesus was all about. Jesus was all about LIFE.

One of the things I say at every funeral I do, before I read the words of Jesus is that if you had to summarize the teaching of Jesus in one word, you could use the word “love”, that works. But you could also use the word “life”. He KNEW that life on earth is precious, and is meant to be lived with all we have. And He KNEW that life on earth is not all there is to life. He knew that life goes on in a different form, when we die here. And his teaching reflects this, his teaching reflects a deep understanding of what LIFE is all about.

Finding Meaning in Life through Jesus and God

The truth is, if we want to know what life is all about, we need to look to Jesus. Human life so closely intwined with Jesus… it’s amazing.

So spend today remembering that GOD is life, and everything about your life is closely linked to God. That’s the only way to start making sense of this life we’ve been gifted.
