You Are Chosen

I spoke yesterday of being fearless. We need to be fearless if we are going to complete God’s will for us.

Mary was surely afraid at what the angel had told her was going to happen in her life. But she was called to this. In fact, she was chosen for this very role.

The angel was quite clear on what Mary’s role was to be: “You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”” (Luke 1:31–33 NIV)

Embracing Your Role: Answering God's Call with Service

Notice that: You will conceive and give birth, you are to call him Jesus. It’s your time Mary! You gotta step up to the plate here, and do these things God is calling you to do.

Mary understood this, and accepted her role. I love her words to the angel: “I am the Lord’s servant,” she says, “may your word to me be fulfilled.”

She said “I’m a person of God! I live to serve him, so if this is what He is calling me to do, I will do it”.

Do you have the same response? If you had to stop and pray in this moment, would you be ready to say “I am Your servant Lord, I will do what you want me to do?”

You too are chosen by God. You’re not chosen to do what Mary did.  But you’re chosen to do what you do best, for God.

Earlier this year at our church we ran the Network Course, which is focused on helping you find out what your spiritual gift is. We all have natural gifts – the ability to do something in particular. But we also all have spiritual gifts – the ability to do the work of God in particular ways.

It’s the end of the year but can I encourage you to begin dreaming – dreaming of how God might use you in his world,  and in your community.

I am gonna preach my heart out, record weekly devotions and film lots of music. I’m going to care for the church I am pastoring, because that is where He has called me.

Saying 'Yes' to God: Embracing Your Purpose for Peace

What about you? Your community needs your gifts, your talents, your abilities.

Mary could have said “naa, no thanks. I’ll just do my own thing.”’ But she didn’t. She answered the call.

She knew she was chosen, and she said yes.

Now what about you? Will you say yes to God’s call today? Or will you keep ignoring Him?

Make the wise choice like Mary. And find peace.
