Victory Over Death
We are more than conquerors – super conquerors – through Christ’s resurrection. And in this world, the ultimate defeat is death. Other defeats in life can be overcome but death is final. It puts an end to everything.
Many of us have felt the sting of death, when a loved one dies – the finality of death hurts deeply. But just when we start to wallow in defeat, we remember the empty tomb!
We remember that Christ conquered… Christ was in our loved ones… And so our loved ones conquered death!
Jesus took the sting out of death for our loved ones who died with their faith in Him – he put death to death!
Some time before he died Jesus had said: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” (John 11:25–26 NIV11)
Life Beyond Death
If he had then died on the cross and stayed dead… such words would just fall to the ground. But he didn’t stay on the cross. He didn’t stay in the grave. He lives! He lives, Christ Jesus lives today! And those who believe in Him will live even though they die.
It’s true for our brothers and sisters in faith who have died already, and friends it’s true for you and for me.
Death no longer has a hold on the person of God. Death no longer scares us! It no longer frightens us! Death is just the door to a new world where the risen Christ awaits us.
THAT’s good news today. Hallelujah! Praise God today for conquering death.
DL Moody the great evangelist famously said this: “Some day you will read in the papers that D. L. Moody, of East Northfield, is dead. Don’t you believe a word of it! At that moment I shall be more alive than I am now. I was born of the flesh in 1837. I was born of the Spirit in 1856. That which is born of the flesh may die. That which is born of the Spirit will live forever.”
